The Mission

XOJoita is an artist and wellness practitioner dedicated to showcasing art, providing holistic services, hosting events, and engaging with the community using various artistic healing modalities. Her mission is to inspire creativity, promote well-being, and foster a sense of belonging for all who encounter her services.

My Story

XO Joita's early years were marked by a trajectory from one low-income housing neighborhood to the next until high school. It was in this vibrant yet challenging environment that she discovered the world

of art. High school not only provided an education but also became the fertile ground for her artistic exploration. Here, she was given the opportunity to delve into the nuances of pencil types, mediums, and styles, laying the foundation for a lifelong love affair with creativity.

The streets of Buffalo, with their own unique cadence, became the backdrop for the budding artist's journey. From the outset, it was evident that her journey would be one of resilience and unwavering

determination. The opportunity to intern at Starlight Art Studio, an art gallery for developmentally disabled adults, opened her eyes to the transformative power of art within diverse communities. Simultaneously, her time at Locust Street Art School, an organization dedicated to teaching various art forms on a donation basis, ignited a passion for giving back to the community.

As XO Joita navigated the challenging terrain of her upbringing, art became not just a form of expression but a lifeline, a sanctuary, and a medium through which she learned to navigate the complexities of her emotions. The foundation laid in Buffalo, with all its raw authenticity, would serve as the crucible from which her artistry would emerge.

My Experience

I have an associate degree in social sciences, a human services certificate, a Bachelor’s degree in Business, a graduate’s certificate in public management and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. During the past six years while studying I have had the opportunity to work with Buffalo’s inner-city youth in various settings. Over the course of four years, I was able to work up the latter from an entry level position as a teacher’s assistant, working one on one with the students individually—to overseeing an afterschool program. For three years I oversaw the activities, ensured the quality of care, safety, and learning environment of the program.

While studying for my graduate degree I worked as a supervisor for a children’s program at a domestic abuse center in Buffalo. In this position my team and I ensured the children were adequately cared for while maintaining a positive and structured environment with lesson plans that stimulated the children while in a safe environment.

In my current role as a community schools navigator, I am able to create a strong partnership with the building administration, community partners, and families. Through this effort, I've been able to assist in the increase of academic proficiency as well as attendance and engagement relative to community events and activities within our programs.
